How long does authority take?
FMCSA runs a public protest period after the application is granted, and authority does not become active until the insurance filing and BOC-3 are both on file. Plan in weeks, not days, and do not commit to loads before it is active.
Do I need MC Authority?
Generally if you haul regulated commodities for hire across state lines. Private carriers hauling their own goods usually need a USDOT number without operating authority.
