Trucking and transportation

Compliance, accounting, and payroll for carriers.

Motor carriers carry two sets of obligations at once: the federal and state filings that keep the trucks legal, and the books, payroll, and taxes every business owes. BKS runs both, on filing systems built specifically for carriers.

What we hear

If any of this sounds familiar

These are the situations businesses in this position actually describe when they call.

  • A renewal lapsed and nobody noticed until a roadside inspection
  • IFTA quarters filed from a shoebox of fuel receipts
  • Drivers paid without the settlements ever reaching the books
  • A safety audit scheduled with no idea what is missing from the DQ files

The order

What happens, in what sequence

Doing these out of order is how businesses pay twice. This is the path BKS runs.

  1. 1

    Get authority

Entity, USDOT number, MC Authority, BOC-3, and insurance filings, in the order that actually gets you to active status.

  2. 2

    Register to run

UCR, IRP apportioned plates, IFTA licensing, state permits, and Form 2290 for anything at 55,000 pounds or more.

  3. 3

    Stay legal

Quarterly IFTA, annual UCR and 2290, the biennial MCS-150, driver qualification files, and Clearinghouse queries, each tracked to its own deadline.

  4. 4

    Run the business

Books that separate settlements, fuel, maintenance, and equipment; payroll or contractor reporting for drivers; and returns filed off real numbers.
